This was probably my biggest electronics project to date. We had some pneumatic shop presses that we used to crush Popsicle stick bridges with while we kept an eye on a mechanical bathroom scale underneath the bridge so we knew how much weight the bridge could support.
We wanted to make it easier for our volunteer judges to use, so hooked up some digital bathroom scales to Arduinos with a LCD screen attached.
I designed and 3D printed the enclosures. Then I designed and made a PCB to connect the Arduino to the LCD, the load cell amplifier and all the other parts. I made an enclosure for the rj45 jack on the scale.
Then I had to figure out how to program it all so it worked, that was a lot of new code for me to learn.
It has been a very rewarding project.
